Stop smoking support
We successfully support people to stop smoking. We run group and individual support sessions across York. If you would like to stop smoking please contact us for information about groups near you. We also take referrals from health care professionals.
Support for people with long term medical conditions
This is an Exercise Referral Scheme (formally known as the HEAL program). GPs and other health professionals can refer patients with medical conditions to receive specialist advice and support, to help them become more active. If you would like more information about this service please contact us or speak to your GP.
The YorWellbeing service works with medium sized businesses to promote opportunities to improve the health and wellbeing of their workforce. We can offer ‘mini health checks’ to your employees and provide an employee profile of your workforce. This service is currently free. If you are an employer and interested in working with us, we encourage you to contact us.
Support for Disabled People
York has a wide variety of sport and physical activity opportunities for anyone with a physical disability, learning disability, or additional needs, regardless of impairment. If you would like more information, please contact us.
Voluntary sports clubs

Men's health and women's health
Men and women experience different health and wellbeing challenges. We are working to promote both men’s health and women’s health initiatives in York. Please contact us if you are currently working on a men’s health or women’s health project in York.
Promoting good mental health and wellbeing of residents in York is a priority area for the YorWellbeing service. We support key national and local campaigns and initiatives to improve mental health and wellbeing.
Older people's health
We are committed to increasing the opportunities for older adults to participate fully in health and wellbeing activities, and we actively promote groups and clubs that are tailored for the needs of older adults in York. If you are planning an event or service we encourage you to contact us
Young people's health
The YorWellbeing service is dedicated to improving physical activity for all children and young people. We work with schools promoting healthy lunchboxes and building physical activity into the school day
City of York Council offer free home safety visits to individuals who are concerned about their risk of falling. The visit focuses on offering practical advice about how to reduce hazards in your home. If you are interested in having a home safety visit please call 01904 567456.
